Shubham Jain
PhD student in Physics, University of Maryland, College Park
I am a PhD student at the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS) at the University of Maryland, College Park, advised by Victor V. Albert. I work on quantum error correction: designing codes that protect quantum information stored in qubits, oscillators, atoms and molecules, and working out which codes suit the noise and the gates of real hardware.
Along the way I have been a quantum computing theory intern at IBM (2026), a research intern at Nanofiber Quantum Technologies in Tokyo (2025), and a visiting researcher at the Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation in Chicago (2024) and in Jens Eisert’s group at FU Berlin (2023). I am a MathQuantum graduate fellow and co-organized the Asia-Pacific QEC seminars.
I was born and raised in New Delhi, India, and completed my undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2021 before moving to the US.
